It is with great sadness that Linke’s Local Arts announces the passing of Wasaga Beach Artist James Ward. Jim’s exquisite work has graced our gallery for many years and he was a huge part of this gallery family. The scope of Jim’s talent is boundless, from wood & bone carvings to wood burning & scrimshaw etching.
Jim was also a long-time member of the Wasaga Beach Artists Group and taught wood carving on Tuesdays in Collingwood. He was know throughout this region, attending many art shows and festivals. In fact it was at one of these art shows that Jim and I( Frieda Linke gallery owner) met almost ten years ago. He was quite the character and I was not so certain about his quirky sense of humor at first, but fell in love with his art in seconds. I knew that this hugely talented man what be a great fit and asset to my gallery, that is when I in visited him to display with us. Jim’s pieces became one of the gallery’s most popular work, selling not just to this region but across Canada and beyond. I am very proud to say that we have had the distinct honor to have this calibre of artwork in our gallery. Beyond the professional relationship for almost a decade, I also have the privilege to call Jim friend. I will miss his visits on Tuesdays as he passed through Stayner, his smile, his laughter and yes his quirky sense of humor! Until next we meet, rest peaceful my friend!
Our Deepest sympathies go out to the Ward Family at this very sad time.
